Hours of work: Up to 35 hours per week. Flexible evening and/or weekend hours will be required.
Location: York and South Simcoe
The model is youth driving; the support will be holistic and compassionate, grounded in evidence, anti-oppression and cultural-competency, following trauma-informed and harm-reduction care. Services will include assessment, suicide intervention, counselling, referral, sexual health and addictions/drug use education and support, basic primary care and health screening. Telemedicine services will offer a range of treatments and specialized services. The positions operate from our mobile Recreational Vehicle MOBYSS (Mobile York South Simcoe) to meet the confidential health needs of youth in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.
Peer Support Specialist:
The Peer Support Specialist collaborates with consumers to provide individualized and flexible support to help engage and integrate them into the community, and help to facilitate access to resources and supports to maximize independence and potential, and promote recovery. Peer Support Specialists have gone through a process of recovery and have obtained peer support related training to assist others with mental health challenges to identify and achieve life goals as part of their own recovery. In collaboration with the team, the Peer Support Specialist uses empowerment and Recovery-oriented approaches with individuals and groups to help combat stigma, raise self esteem and mastery, improve self concept, and instill hope.
Youth Mental Health Worker:
The Youth Mental Health Worker is responsible for connecting with and evaluating mental health and related issues with youth, other community professionals, and for the general public. In collaboration with the team, the Youth Mental Health Worker uses empowerment and Recovery-oriented approaches with individuals and groups to help combat stigma, raise self esteem and mastery, improve self concept, and instill hope.
General Requirements for Both Positions:
These positions report to and are supervised by the Program Manager.
Working Conditions: Recreational Vehicle, Office work, Occasional weekend/evening hours will be required
